Manny Pacquiao is one of the most renowned boxer all over the world. He rose up from poverty with the will to survive and a belief that made Him one great evangelist, maybe not by mouth but by the act of showing the world that the humility of kneeling down, signing one’s self with the cross of Christ, and kissing Mary, the Mother of God through the rosary he always had around his neck before every fight made him the greatest man who rose up above any other champions on his knees.
His conviction to his faith was really something that made even boxing analysts and news agencies seem to wonder in awe because they have never seen a boxer with such conviction to a faith, particularly the Catholic faith.
All that however was slowly changing. Despite his conviction to to God and his connection to several Catholic websites and sources that fed him with lots of matters regarding faith, he became a little bit lax by the time that non-Catholic Pastors started to come to him to convince him to maybe doubt certain practices he may have.
This is quite obvious because there were several things he never did when he went into the ring before he fought Bradley and especially Marquez – He didn’t bring his rosary, he never made the sign of the cross, and simply knelt and prayed. That’s it.
Doubting his faith I believe contributed to his falling. Everybody can see that he was so fast in the ring and full of energy and made Marquez’s face swollen and beaten; but apart from that, he still fell.
Let us not forget that Marquez is also a Catholic who also prayed before he went in the ring. The only difference was that Marquez never started to doubt his Catholic conviction and practiced it.
I am not saying this because I am a Catholic with full conviction, well, maybe weak in practice but a Catholic who never doubts the teaching of the Church. There were lots of witnesses all around the world and thousands of them did notice something missing and lacking when Pacquiao entered the ring.
According to some news websites he didn’t even attend mass during the feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8) or had his personal mass which he always had before a fight.
He was able to carry a mountain of challenges in his life and threw these in the sea of troubles when he never doubted, and now that he was starting to, things are going back against him.
I once again pray for Pacquiao to ask for the fullness of faith, with no doubting, for in scripture it says that the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind (James 1:6)
Let him not be tempted by the denominations who would like to pull him down from the Church Jesus built upon Peter.
